What is a Hydro Floss®?
Hydro Floss is an oral irrigator. It is an effective tool that should be part of everyone’s home care program. Hydro Floss uses a gentle, pulsating stream of water to massage gums, remove food debris, germs and bacteria from tooth surfaces, including those hard to reach areas like between teeth and below the gum where brushing and flossing cannot reach. It will help in controlling plaque (bio film) and calculus and removing deposits at and slightly below the gum line.
What is the Difference in the Hydro Floss® and other Irrigators?
In the dental community, Hydro Floss has earned a reputation of being a professional grade irrigator because of its effectiveness, as well as the quality of workmanship and manufacturing. According to two studies published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology:
(1) “The group using an irrigator with a magnetic device showed a 44% greater reduction in area (p<0.0001) over the group using an unmagnetized irrigator.” The Effect of Oral Irrigation with a Magnetic Treatment Device on Plaque and Calculus, May 1993; 20: 314–317.
(2) “Irrigation with magnetized water resulted in 64% less calculus compared to the control group. The reduction was statistically significant (p< or =0.02).” The Effectiveness of a Magnetized Water Oral Irrigator (Hydro Floss) on Plaque, Calculus and Gingival Health, April 1998; 25(4):316–321.
Why is it Important to Use an Irrigator?
Because brushing and flossing are not enough! Irrigation was once thought of as something recommended to people who do not use dental floss. Today it is understood that there are areas where a toothbrush and dental floss cannot clean. Adding oral irrigation to your daily home care routine can improve not only your dental health but your overall health as well.
Everyone should see their dentist at least twice a year. That leaves 363 days of the year that YOU are responsible for maintaining your oral health. I Use an Electronic Toothbrush. Why Do I still need an Irrigator?
Brushing and irrigating are two separate applications. A toothbrush, when used properly, is effective for cleaning the tooth surface. Unfortunately, everyone has areas in their mouth that even the best toothbrush will prove ineffective simply because it cannot reach those areas. Good examples include below the gum line, periodontal pockets, in between the teeth, and the backsides of the teeth, especially molars. Implants, crown and bridge work, and orthodontic appliances also create areas where a toothbrush is ineffective.
